Optimize Your Health
Through the manual arts of Shiatsu & Ki therapy, the exercise of karate and the practice of meditation.
Karate means “Empty Hand” and is a Japanese / Okinawan style of martial arts that emphasizes “kihon” striking, blocking and stance techniques, forms “kata”, and sparring “kumite . These 3 categories – Kihon, Kata and Kumite are the basis of practice and help us to improve our awareness and concentration. Karate is more than self defence and can be used to improve the quality and health of our daily lives.
Ki Exercise is founded on the principles of Martial Arts and is done in a more gentle slower way with the focus being on breathing and proper body alignment. Participants leave feeling invigorated and refreshed.
Shiatsu meaning “finger Pressure’ in Japanese is a 20th century refinement of Koho Anma techniques which date back to the 8th century. Shiatsu technique involves using thumb and palm pressure primarily on specific points or areas of the body to promote the health and well being of the recipient.
Ki Therapy involves the holding of specific points or zones on the body to promote the flow of Ki –vital life force- and can be used synergistically with Shiatsu to optimize health and well being of the recipient.

Shihan Leny is a very compassionate and calm person. I have known him for about 20 years and have never seen him lose his temper. Not only does he possess a deep knowledge of Karate techniques but he also brings a mind / spiritual dimension to Karate from his other profession as a Shiatsu Therapist. His classes are relaxed and fun.
I’ve been seeing Leny on a regular basis as both a student and a client since 2008. His depth of knowledge and his warm, patient, generous and compassionate nature are the reasons I keep coming back. (My secret nickname for him is “The Buddha on Bathurst”.) He has a real passion for teaching that’s a rarity. He makes learning truly an enjoyable experience, whether it be continuing Shiatsu workshops or karate classes. And his constant refinement means there’s always something new to learn. As a Shiatsu Therapist, Leny’s treatments always leave me feeling a million times better than when I arrived. In fact, I’d say that’s true when attending classes as well. I look forward to many more years of training and treatments with Leny!
I have been studying with Leny Carbone for 18 years because he is a very knowledgeable, gentle and skilled teacher. I enjoy the Shiatsu workshops and retreats tremendously because my shiatsu practice is deepened, but I also have a lot of fun with Leny and other students. Leny always has a nugget of wisdom or a technique to share because of his love of Shiatsu and learning as well. Thanks Leny for being pretty awesome!
After seven years of undiagnosed chronic pain and severe weakness, I booked an appointment with Leny on the recommendation of a trusted friend. I arrived in an electric wheelchair and, due to my weakness, needed help to get into the treatment room. Within three months I was walking on my own and have not used the wheelchair since (over two years ago). When I got strong enough, I joined Lenny’s Qi exercise class, which further helped, so much so that I eventually joined his karate classes, which I continue to attend today. I spent several years and a lot of money trying to find someone who could help me. Since coming to Leny, I have been able to stop looking. It is a tremendous relief – indeed, a true privilege -- to know my health is in good hands. Lenny is experienced, skillful, and very kind to boot. The treatments are enjoyable and I rely on them to maintain my still-improving health.
